A Serious Holiday: Pukerangi
Pukerangi Cottage is a newly-established residency instigated for development of research-led design practices. Situated on a working 1200-acre sheep farm in Central Hawkes Bay, the space is positioned somewhere between an artist residency and a retreat.
The cottage, originally built for shearers and musterers who worked on the farm, is a restored three-bedroom getaway with all necessary amenities. It can be used for small groups as well as individuals, and sleep six people comfortably. An extensive library of design books is to be housed in the space in 2018.
The intention is to provide space for urban-based designers to complete focussed research in a culturally-isolated environment—a space that naturally enables critical reflection and alternative frames of reference through it's bucolic setting.
